Delnara El’s series delves into the layered experience of witnessing traumatic events from afar, where physical distance does little to diminish emotional intensity. Collage serves as an ideal medium for this exploration, enabling her to piece together reality from disparate sources: photographs, messages from friends and family, and recent news from Ukraine. Through these fragments, the artist reconstructs a vision of home in a world where borders seem to dissolve.
Each piece in the series symbolizes the malleability of home, embodying a sanctuary woven through the turmoil of past, present, and future. As Delnara’s homeland endures the ravages of war, she transforms the notion of home into a fragile yet resilient thread, bridging her experiences across spaces and time. Even the body in Delnara’s work becomes a refuge amid upheaval—a final fortress beneath starlit skies.
This shifting sense of home, adapting as borders and circumstances change, transforms the world itself into a sanctuary. Through vulnerability and loss, Delnara's work emphasises the resilience and vitality that emerge from adaptation. Each step becomes a new fragment of home, a testament to hope and the continuity of life in an ever-changing landscape.

Delnara El is an artist deeply influenced by her experiences of migration, particularly the impact of displacement caused by the war in Ukraine. Her work explores the concept of 'migration' in its broadest sense, examining the fluid and shifting nature of home and identity in an increasingly multicultural world. For Delnara, nomadism is more than a lifestyle—it is a framework for rethinking perceptions, constantly reshaping her 'mental map' of the world. Through this fluid approach to perception, she challenges familiar perspectives, opening space for new insights and unexpected discoveries.
Delnara primarily works with collage, painting, and photography, combining materials and images that reflect the interwoven stories of human and natural worlds. Her series Inside the Distance captures the experience of living between worlds, offering glimpses into fragmented places and layered identities. Through her art, Delnara seeks to reveal life’s resilience and beauty, even amidst chaos and displacement.
For Delnara, art serves as both a sanctuary and a call to connect across boundaries. It is a space where the universal and the personal intersect, fostering dialogue and empathy. With over a decade of practice, she is driven by a commitment to creating pieces that bridge cultures and serve as powerful reminders of shared humanity.
