Nafeesa Naz Zaman - The Revolution.jpeg

The Revolution
2024
Ink on paper
£200

This poem was written in January 2024 in response to the brutal war in Gaza, Palestine. As both a human being and an artist, Nafeesa felt utterly helpless reflecting on the decades of war that have embroiled Palestine. In line with the central tenet of her practice, Nafeesa’s work is a dreamlike offering of hope and a reminder to aspire to a future where everyone’s needs are met and ‘joy fills the world’.  In Nafeesa’s ‘beautiful world’, simple pleasures are celebrated and we are reminded that, to thrive as a species, we must all strive for joy.

Nafeesa acknowledges the present state of the world where tears are shed.  However, to further emphasise the importance of community, Nafeesa leaves us with her characteristic note of positivity that in a beautiful world, there will always be someone to offer support.

NAFEESA NAZ ZAMAN

Nafeesa Naz Zaman is a 26 year old British-Pakistani artist who has been experimenting with various artforms since childhood.  Central to Nafeesa’s practice is a commitment to capture the revolutionary power of art, by weaving the idea of hope into her writing and artwork.  She believes it is the work of artists to instill hope into people. Nafeesa strives to seek out the good in our world and through use of various mediums from painting to writing, she celebrates the simple yet profound idea that beauty lies comfortably here on Earth. She draws inspiration from Japanese author, Haruki Murakami and Bradfordian artist, David Hockney.
